Back in the day, I was a Norton fan.
Lately though, I think THEY are the threat.

Both Norton and Symantec were a threat way back in the 90s; I was given copies of both to review and both came up with "Looky what I found!" on a crystal clean system!

My review wasn't complimentary at all, and I returned both CDs (no USB in those days).

I used Symantec AV in the early 2000's and had no problems.
I also used Norton Ghost 2003 backup software, and it worked very well.

I have to use Norton through work, what I don't have to use is Norton Safe Web, so gone it is

For me, I thought Norton Security was a good product.

Unfortunately when it became entwined with LifeLock, it was all downhill (personal opinion).

Thats when I cut it loose.

Windows Security, has worked equally as well, and at a nice cost savings.

My review was when both products were pretty new. I think they changed their attitude once a few more reviews like mine appeared. It's one thing to find and report a virus; it's another to manufacture one.

I understand, and agree.

@CornishRattler That is because it is a new site and is untested in the community. It is a warning to be careful, notice the word May contain a small number of threats. I find it a badly worded caution

Yeah, no worries. Having installed it over the weekend I was surprised how little resources it seems to use. the extensions though I can do without

Quite agree, the only one worth it is Safe Web

I still use them. Never really had a problem with it.

I never had an issue either, JV.

I especially liked NIS. But when it became 360, it seemed as if I started getting too many promotional ad's, spam mail. That's when I decided to rid myself of it.

One thing I do miss, is how efficient Norton is/was at updating. Windows Security could learn something from them about that.

But no, not a bad product, IMO.

Same but in a school and low system resources.

I used Norton for years. I started with just the AV back in like 2000, Then I graduated to Norton Internet Security and loved it. I used that until about 2010 when I decided not to pay for protection any more and went through a succession of free alternatives. I never had any problems or issues with Norton.

Norton is steadily gobbling up all the free offerings. Avast, AVG, and Avira are now all part of Norton. Bitdefender recently pulled the plug on their free version. I actually look at this as proof of how good and widely used Microsoft Defender has become.

I think the good old days have gone for Norton, They used to be just a good old AV and clean up tools, now they sending to many emails selling different things. but, imo still one of the best AV's I am just not sure which way they are heading
