I think the telepathic windows updates are a thing :). "Brain-computer interface" in this article. Funnily enough, back in 1996, when ranting about reading Shakespeare on a cd rom (I thought it was horrible - it should be read in a proper book - it's Shakespeare) I joked that soon we would not need cd roms and would have a chip implanted so we could just know the contents automatically via chip link with computer.

That quote was a throwaway made by a Microsoft Evangelist attending the launch of Windows 10, No one at Microsoft or any official spokesman for anyone ever made the remark.

The way I understand it it was made by Jerry Nixon to describe the new way of continual development of the New, (at that time ) Windows 10. Windows 10 is actually on a similar timeline of 5 Years support followed by five years of extended support the fact is that Microsoft's development of Windows 11 was much better controlled, with none of the usual continuous production preview leaks, we have come to expect from Redmond so the knowledge of Windows 11 and it's release were seemingly close together
