OLD Software That You've Used In The Past

I thought this thread might bring back a few memories.

Over the years, I'm sure we've all used tons of software that is now abandoned or maybe some surprisingly still in development.
I'm thinking of software that been around for a long time.

Here are a couple that come to mind.

I'm sure you all know what CDRWIN is used for, but some may not know that Axman was a file splitter and joiner.

The original Ghost program. (Before Norton Ghost)
I tried looking for screenshots of Ghost by Binary Research prior to the Symantec / Norton takeover. I couldn't find anything.
I still remember all those years ago when I was doing my network engineering studies, they'd use Ghost to reimage all the computers after class.

Symantec Antivirus (circa 2003)

I used all these from about 2003 and onward.
I used ZoneAlarm in the very early days.
I also used jv16 PowerTools. I thought it was good back then.
I also used Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition a long time ago because it was much lighter on resources than the Norton branded alternatives.

I guess I'm livin' on the edge these days. I don't find that I need any of that crap today. :ROFLMAO:

Around about the time of Windows 3.1 (early to mid 90s), so called RAM Doublers became popular due to the price of RAM and the apparent difficulty in upgrading some computers.

The four most popular variants were: Connectix RAM Doubler, Syncronys SoftRAM, Quarterdeck MagnaRAM, and Helix Hurricane.

I remember using Connectix RAMDoubler. I don't know if it made any difference. :ROFLMAO:

Dragon Naturally Speaking was once the leading speech recognition software. It probably still is, although there are a few contenders for that title these days.

WinZip was the first file archiver I ever used. I don't use it these days.
But I find it interesting how it started.

WinZip 1.0 was released in April 1991 as a Graphical User Interface (GUI) frontend for DOS command line tool PKZIP.

With PKZIP installed, and with WinZip properly installed and configured, a user could simply double-click on a zip file to extract its contents, or drag and drop some files to create a new ZIP file. WinZip handled the user interface, and on the back end, it ran PKZIP.

Eventually, WinZip adopted its own ZIP implementation, and dumped PKZIP. Now, there were no complicated dependencies nor configuration. If a user needed to open a zip file, they could simply download and run WinZip as a single program.

An early WinZip release.
