I tried to shring a partition and it just freezes with no details. I had to resort to a GParted iso just to get a progress bar, and thinking about it Disk management is really a pretty archaic piece of software...

Are we talking about managing a disk (i.e. a hard drive, or SSD) or Manipulating it?
Managing it is usually no problem. But when it come to Manipulating it, That's a different story all together.
That is something better left to the professionals, and they have written some pretty good software to make the job so a little easier.
Still, it requires SOME knowledge of the RULES, for one to be successful.
For instance, you can't make one partition on a disk larger, till you've already created space, by making another partitions smaller.
Simple things like that have been the undoing for many a beginner.

I'm thinking there will eventually be third party software that will be available such as MiniTool Partition Wizard (my favourite) that will allow a user to "manipulate" partitions. Whether or not it will allow the user to generate their own serial numbers is another matter.

Some years ago, I got a FREE copy of the MiniTool Partition Wizard, as an ISO, and I installed it to a CD. Since then I've been able to copy it to a bootable Flash Drive, which is better, since so many new PC's don't even have a CD drive any more.
As a FREE offering, like so many, it has it's limitations, but I still like it for what it will do. Sometimes it's better than EaseUs Partition
Manager.
And it works outside of Windows, which is a big advantage too. Oft times, Windows just gets in the way of Utilities.
And, that's why my Backup/Restore program only works from a Bootable media, like a CD or Flash drive.

Happy Father's Day
