More about a possible Windows 12

My Vista era test laptop (Dual core CPU, 2GB upgraded to 4GB, HDD replaced with SSD, Intel GMA 4500 graphics) was initially downgraded to Windows XP to be much faster. I then installed Windows 7, upgraded to 8 and eventually to Windows 10. I even installed Windows 11 on a spare SSD running fine without any issue or noticeable drop in performance.

I have a 2005 vintage HP laptop that has a single core AMD Turion64 CPU and 2GB of RAM. It came with XP. I used it as my only computer until 2011 when I upgraded to another HP with the first generation Llano quad core APU. The old machine became my guinea pig and I used it to try out Windows 8. That ran almost the same as XP. It was subsequently upgraded to 8.1 and then 10. It has had several Linux varieties as well. Currently it's set up in a triple boot of Windows 98SE, XP, and Windows 7. All 32 bit versions.

The biggest drawback of old hardware is the lack of WDDM graphics drivers. For those models that do have a WDDM graphics driver (at least Vista 32-bit), Windows 10 32-bit run fine. For those with 64-bit CPU and available 64-bit drivers you can even install Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11, as long as the CPU does have the required instructions to run Windows 8 64-bit and newer. For example, the first AMD 64 CPUs don't have these instructions, so they can run Windows XP x64, Vista and 7 64-bit, but not Windows 8 64-bit or higher. The first Intel Pentium 4 6xx 64-bit models or newer do have these instructions and I have actually installed Windows 11 on such system. So if you have a Windows 8 64-bit compatible CPU, at least 2GB RAM and WDDM graphics drivers, don't hesitate, try Windows 11.

If by "live wallpaper" you mean "live video wallpaper", it shouldn't be hard to do. I have seen many TV tuner software that can project the TV channel on your desktop, that is a video wallpaper. Surely there is some other software that can project a live video image from a webcam or other source.

I personally do not see any point in moving wallpaper, however it's done, video or animation, I do use a small selection of regular wallpaper but only see it when rebooting my systems - which in most cases is not a very regular event with my desktop. I use my screens to contain the task I amy working on, usually one item per screen. All a moving wallpaper would do is waste processing that can be better used for other more useful tasks

Not sure if it still works but VLC did have the ability to display various media as a Wallpaper so that may be an option worth exploring, VLC is of course Free

I'd love to be able to get rid of "Physical screens" and have those enabled purely holographically -- not against a wall or whatever. Needsa load of CPU power for that though -- I suspect we might start seeing 128 bit cpu's by then -- you can'y Multi-processor too many CPU's because the OS overhead becomes too much in maintaining them so having a 128 bit cpu would apart from pther advantages at the worst halve the number of MP's required to achieve the same object as a 64 bit cpu.

Cheers

Holographic screen like in Star Wars? Sounds awesome. Watching movies would be like actually being there. Hopefully the colors will be much better than Star Wars that were dull and had a blue or green hue. Of course to be realistic we are talking at least 4K or 8K in all viewing angles and at least at eye height, not too small or too large.

When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October.

You're dead-on about the graphics drivers. I have an old first-gen Fujitsu tablet that came with XP and upgraded fine all the way through Win7. But the XPDM drivers locked it out of Win8 and newer. I hated to "retire" it as I got lots of years of good use and with an SSD, its performance was quite good for such an old laptop.

Some type of smart filter will just ignore non applicable commands and also alert our bosses, so beware to switch off telepathetic control when you don't feel like working... Of course this could also alert our bosses. Drat!

Some type of smart filter will just ignore non applicable commands and also alert our bosses, so beware to switch off telepathetic control when you don't feel like working... Of course this could also alert our bosses. Drat!
Now I really like that spapakons.I may even try it

No interest in any of that speculative stuff or a rumoured Win12 until something is said by a verifiable Microsoft source and not via fake leaks from nameless people or imaginative click bait sites.
Even if they start work on Win12, there is no guarantee it will ever get released, MS does have a habit of scrapping new operating systems. ;)
I agree with you clam1952 This more real than most things I have heard
