Windows 11 has still a long way to go. So Windows 12 should be released after 2024. Probably when Windows 10 will be end of life in 2025.

I think that subject has been done to death now, it is all speculation

Hmm, by "live wallpaper" do you guys mean something similar to DreamScene? (You know, the Windows Ultimate Extras from Windows Vista?)
It could be fun but I worry about battery life, I think I might turn it off.

I do miss other elements from the Vista and 7 era though, most specifically Aero Glass. These single-color black-or-white window frames look very dull to me. :(
I also disliked the taskbar in Windows 10, but the one in Windows 11 seems to be a bit more colorful, more to my liking, reminiscent of the Vista era. I'm using a notebook with an OLED display, but actually you can enable this colorful taskbar mode with a registry tweak on any machine, including on non-OLED displays,

What do you mean colorful taskbar? If you mean transparency, there is already a setting in Windows 10 and 11. You can also increase or decrease transparency with Winaero Tweaker. Needless to say you can set it to any color you want by manually setting the RGB values. If you mean replacing the monochrome taskbar icons with the colorful icons from Windows 7 or 8, you can use Customizer God to do that. Read the relevant threads from the other forums. In Windows 11 you must first ungroup the taskbar icons with Explorer Patcher or similar utility otherwise any customization is ignored. In my Windows 11 system I have Windows 8.1 icons and Windows 7 start menu using Openshell. In Windows 11 you must replace the default start button to enable the Openshell start menu. If you have the default start button doesn't work, probably a bug. Also in Windows 11 the custom start button is a little smaller and the default button shows beneath (if you have set the start menu at the left). To fix this change the button size to 60 for 100% scaling or to 70 for 150% scaling.

I'd like to see a much bigger selection of Windows preinstalled wallpapers. 10 doesn't have many. As opposed to "themes". Just more stunning wallpapers to choose from without going to third parties.

Web is full of stunning images. Just download one and set it as wallpaper. Every time I see some nice wallpapers I keep a copy. I have wallpapers from Windows 95, 95 Plus, 98, 98 Plus, XP, Vista, 7, Mac OS X 10.5, 10.8, 10.10 and many nice images I have found online.

See here: wallpapers sceneries - Google Search

True - I'd just like to see a few more included in Windows - they've gone a bit frugal. Maybe I'm too lazy to search for them :ROFLMAO:

Back in the Window XP era there was a site full of wallpapers and a software to group them and display a certain group with a certain theme, but I don't remember what it was called. You needed a free subscription to download the collections. Surely there are more such sites today Google is your friend.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October.

That's a little worrying, they struggle as it is on a five year cycle. Three years would I fear simply magnify the glitches on release

I think they're going to fast for commercial users. Local school computers are still on Windows 7. I'm guessing their computers are not upgradeable to Windows 10. Or - maybe they like to keep them free of microsoft accounts with kids around! Assuming they have a contract for updates.

Someone else thinking the same as me - why are schools still on Windows 7?! Kids need to learn advanced technologies!

Here in Greece also schools are on Windows 7 as most school computers are from Core 2 Duo era. Of course we can upgrade them to Windows 10 or even 11 if they have at least 4GB RAM and replace the old mechanical disk with an SSD. Usually the Parents Board pays for these upgrades and not all parents are willing to pay for something that should be done at Governments' expenses. We have upgraded many dual core systems to Windows 11 with the same drivers as for Windows 7 64-bit. Doable if you bypass compatibility check, see relevant thread at Elevenforum. We use the existing Windows 7 key, so no charge for a new license.

I'm sure it can be done. Suggests to me the schools IT or funding are just being lazy about it or not prioritising it. Makes me want to go over and do it myself! Having said that, there was the odd thing that wouldn't upgrade to 10. We had a netbook with a Cedarview processor that wouldn't run anything except Windows 7.

I have seen cases that could not upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 due to some unknown incompatibility. But I could backup and do a clean installation of Windows 10 or 11 without any issue. So as a last resort backup and format.

The Cedarview wouldn't even run with a clean install - no graphics driver. It wouldn't even run Linux! Only Windows 7. Well it would run some Linux with a stretched screen kind of.
